Voltage Monitoring Extends Battery Life, Prevents Electric Lift Truck Failures
(news for immediate release from aimarket - September 2004)
A new voltage monitoring function added
to the popular Shockswitch ID and RFID units promises to extend battery life and
reduce electric lift truck motor, relay contact, and other electric component
failures; such as expensive SCR control packages. Running batteries at an
optimum charge level also aids forklift truck productivity because of faster
travel and hoisting speeds. Shockswitch
ID and RFID are electronic devices that control driver access and monitor/record
impact events during lift truck operation.
Operating at lower than normal
voltage is damaging to the battery and can cause electrical components to fail.
Therefore, the side effects of operating at low voltages are more serious
than simply a slower operating machine. Low voltage means higher amperage and
more heat. Heat is the great enemy
of electrical and electronic component life. The Shockswitch voltage meter will
generate an event when low voltage occurs and can also produce an audible alarm
for immediate alert.
Shockwatch V.P – Engineering, Clint Branch commented in a recent interview, “We believe the new feature is a great product enhancement. We continue to strive to add value to our product offering. Voltage monitoring was the next logical addition. This feature, as well as many of our previous product enhancements, was largely due to input and requests we received from our customers.”
Shockswitch is among the world’s best selling forklift truck management systems – approaching 100,000 units sold. The SSID and RFID units require drivers to prove identity before the lift can be operated. Access control features can determine: whether driver has ‘up-to-date’ training qualifications, authorization for the truck, and notify the operator and management of a pending lapse in certification or a need for scheduled maintenance. Shockswitch also monitors for excessive forklift impacts and records any such impacts under the driver’s ID number or name.
