FLY LINES
MONIC patented fly lines, are the world's first and only clear, floating fly line. They offer the discriminating fly fisherman a distinct advantage in the pursuit of wary species.
Hi ! I personally test every MONIC fly line for quality and performance. The first tests are conducted in our polymer labs and manufacturing facility. But the most stringent tests are the ones every fly fisher can relate to and they take place streamside, on the lake or on the bay. They are the most important tests of all. This is why I try to handle most of this testing in person.

Bob Goodale, President Flow Tek, Inc., manufacturer of Monic Fly Lines, testing lines on Montana's Big Horn River.
The Age Of Engineered Fly Lines --Fly lines of the highest quality, in the late 1800's and through a good part of the twentieth century were braided from silk. Silk is a good natural fiber but, as any older fly fisherman knows, it was an adaption of necessity, and the lines required special care, storage and treatment. As we enter the the twenty-first century, the polymer technology employed in the manufacture of patented MONIC fly lines is unique and constantly evolving. The combination of leading edge polymer engineering technology and decades of fly fishing experience has allowed us to offer the discriminating angler just the right line for the world's most diverse species and water conditions.
MONIC Tropical Clear and Sand-Colored Floating Fly Lines

Our first lines. These revolutionary floating fly lines represent the first clear floating lines ever produced. MONIC clear fly lines allow the fly fisherman to make discrete presentations to extremely wary fish, such as: tarpon, permit and bonefish. This unique product development earned a U.S. patent* in 1997.
These lines are designed to be used at temperatures above 65oF to minimize the occurrence of reel memory. To produce our sand-colored line, a small amount of pigment is added to the clear polymer coating, creating a line with all the properties of our clear line, but easier to see on the water. The finish on both lines is hard and durable, well suited for the casting demands and rigors of salt water fishing.
"Absolutely amazing" are the casting freedoms permissible when casting into a school of tarpon, permit or bonefish. "I had two novice anglers throw bad casts over big snook lying up in cool water," says Captain Ron Wagner, aflats guide out of Islamorada. "Watching those two wasn't much fun. But the snook never moved, and when the fly approached their snout, they eagerly inhaled the offering. Incredible!"
Available in a weight-forward taper design, in line sizes 6- through 13-weight.
MONIC Tropical Light-Blue Floating Fly Line

Our newest line. The key element of our new line is the core fiber, which is made of gel-spun polyethylene. This core exhibits no elongation, and possesses a breaking strength of 90 pounds. The polymer coating on this line is a variation of our tropical system, providing good casting and durability.
Notable features of this new tropical line are a high degree of sensitivity and excellent hooking capability. One of the more recent tactics for tarpon is to keep the tarpon from getting into the backing. This construction allows anglers to put maximum pressure on the fish.

MONIC Cold-Water Clear Floating Fly Line

A unique cold-water line. Cold-water lines are ideal for spring creek, still-water, and low-water stream conditions. Line clarity minimizes the impact of line shadow during false casting, while the monafilament core enhances the angler's ability to both cast and mend his line.
A good example of the evolving nature of this patented technology is the recent improvement in the bond between polymer coating and core in our cold-water lines.
Ed Rice, Chairman of International Sportsmen's Expositions, has fished our cold-water clear lines from the spring creeks of Montana to the tropics of Central America. "Your lines," Rice says, "are going to revolutionize top water fly fishing."
Available in a weight-forward taper in line sizes 2-through 10-weight.
MONIC All-Weather Fluorescent Orange Floating Fly Line

Our first fluorescent line. MONIC all-weather orange floating line is designed for all types of fishing encounters, from the tropics to the arctic. Our all-weather lines feature braided nylon fiber jacketed with a low specific gravity polymer that is unaffected by hot or cold weather. These lines are particularly well suited for cold weather fly fishing such as encountered by steelheaders.
These fluorescent lines feature excellent visibility in combination with ease in casting and high floating properties, regardless of temperature extremes.
Available in a weight-forward taper in line sizes 3- through 10-weight.
MONIC All-Weather Lemon-Yellow Floating Fly Line

Our most recent all-weather line is now under field evaluation, with commercial availability expected in early 1999. This lemon-yellow line is made with a non-stretching, gel-spun fiber core of 90 lbs. breaking strength. Both the polymer coating and the fiber core are unaffected by cold and heat.
In many respects, the lemon-yellow line epitomizes Flow Tek's product development philosophy, to provide anglers with fly lines that add a new dimension to their fly fishing endeavors.
Projected to be a broad spectrum fly line that can be used anywhere, the lemon-yellow fly line offers improved sensitivity, enhanced hooking, and a soft presentation.
Under test in a weight-forward taper in line sizes 4- through 10- weight.

Notes
All MONIC fly lines are 90 feet in length. After fishing, MONIC lines should be cleaned with detergent/water solution. Line dressings and cleaners do not affect the polymer coating on MONIC fly lines.
