High Visibility, Hospital “Patient Pull” Cord For Emergency Switches

A new high-visibility pull cord for all emergency switching and signal applications is available in three fluorescent colors and one “glow in the dark” variety.  Microlite™ Cord is the name of Flow Tek’s new product available in M-1 Orange, M-2 Green and M-3 Yellow/Green. The M-3 Yellow/Green model, which possesses the glow in the dark capability, is the most unique of the three grades. This particular cord, when exposed to a light source for 20 minutes, will glow in the dark for a period of six to eight hours.

Microlite™ Cord was initially conceived by the Flow Tek engineering staff in response to hospital customer complaints about their existing, old-fashioned cloth pull cords.   They complained of embedded dirt, blood, feces or other contaminants causing poor sanitation, loss of visibility and unsightliness. Microlite™ products may be easily installed and they may be easily cleaned or sterilized. They are odorless, non-toxic and non-conductive.  Std. Diameters range from .080" plus or minus .005", and custom diameters are available.  Cord strength ranges from 4 lbs. to 50 lbs. with cores either monofilament or braided fiber.  Unless specified Microlite™ cord has no stretch.  A version of Microlite™  cord with stretch is available for the cord to act as a shock absorber and prevent patients from pulling out the light fixture or nurses' call alarm when they make contact.

In addition to the high-visibility cords the Microlite™ Cord product line from Flow Tek, Inc. includes clear and white cord to better blend with room décor wherein that quality is desired over high-visibility. The cords are also available in varied break strengths for special applications (ex; low break strength = 5 lbs. or less for prisons and psychiatric use).  Various “cushioning stretch” levels may be designed in to suit special needs.
